“It is Small Business Week. Local businesses in my riding are creating new technology and growing. How is our government supporting them?”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, it is Small Business Week. Many SMEs in my riding are innovating. For example, just this week, a $1-million investment was announced for Omnimed, a company that develops electronic medical records and plans to integrate artificial intelligence into its operations. We also have many manufacturing and agricultural businesses in our region. Our government needs to support these businesses. Can the Secretary of State for Small Business and Tourism tell us how our government is supporting businesses like those in my riding?

Rechie Valdez, Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Secretary of State (Small Business and Tourism)

“Our government is supporting small and medium businesses. We gave 7.5 million dollars to businesses affected by tariffs. We also lowered the tax rate on new business investments to 6.4 percent.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question. Our government has taken significant measures to support SMEs. Businesses affected by tariffs have access to $7.5 million in financial support to invest in their growth. We have reduced the marginal effective tax rate on new business investment to 6.4%. I wish everyone an excellent Small Business Week.
