“I oppose this bill. It harms the environment, ignores Indigenous and workers' rights, and gives ministers too much power to bypass constitutional protections. It will just lead to lawsuits.”

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister called Bill C-39 “the most consequential legislation” in decades. This is true. It tramples on environmental protections and indigenous and workers’ rights while handing ministers king powers to override constitutional safeguards in the name of the so-called national interest. Our constitutional rights are not an inconvenience. Are the Liberals, with the help of the Conservatives, really trying to build a strong Canada, or are they just working together to build a pipeline to the courts?

“I support this bill. It does not lower our standards. It only changes the process so we can build projects while still working with First Nations and protecting our country.”

Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, indeed, building Canada strong is focused on building Canada strong, working with every region and working with first nations. It is not just about the duty to consult. It is the right thing to do, working together to build up the country. By the way, if we look at the bill, it is not about changing standards. That is sacrosanct. What it is about is changing processes. We can do both and we will do both.
