The Environment

During question period on the environment, the NDP asked the government to drop Bill C-39, which the member called harmful to the environment, workers, and Indigenous peoples, citing scientists’ reports that climate change has driven a large increase in deaths from wildfire smoke. The Liberal parliamentary secretary replied that the government uses the best science and standards, and pointed to its work fighting climate change, expanding clean electricity, and funding nature and wildlife protection. The bill referenced matches the Building Canada Strong Act, which changes federal environmental assessment and related laws with the stated aim of speeding up approvals for major projects.Written by AI from the debate. Mr. Speaker, I have to disagree. We have the best science, we have the best standards and we are going to keep to them. I am always pleased to work with all of my colleagues here as we move forward to fight climate change and protect the environment. We have introduced the national electricity strategy, we are going to double the electrical grid by 2030, we have invested $3.8 billion in the nature strategy to protect 30% of lands and waters by 2030, and we have invested $1.2 billion to protect oceans, marine conservation, whales and indigenous partnership.
