Viviane Lapointe, Sudbury
“This is National Skilled Trades and Technology Week. Skilled trades are important for our economy, and we need more young people to choose these jobs. I invite everyone to a reception tonight to talk about how to get young people into the trades.”
“Mr. Speaker, today we kick off National Skilled Trades and Technology Week. The aim is to raise awareness about skilled trades and technology careers among youth, parents, educators and the public. Our government is committed to building a stronger economy, and a large part of that includes young people choosing skilled trades and careers in technology. In my riding of Sudbury, skilled trades power our economy, but we need to ensure that young people see the trades as a viable career choice. We know we cannot build strong without a skilled workforce. I invite everyone to join me tonight at a reception hosted by the Pearson Centre and Skills Canada at the National Arts Centre, where featured guests will share their insights on how to engage young people in the trades.”
