Natural Resources

During question period on natural resources, Elizabeth May raised the case of ten First Nations going to court over the Pacific Link pipeline’s designation as a project in the national interest, saying it lacks a set route, completed engineering, and an environmental assessment, and violates treaty and constitutional rights; she also cited concerns for the B.C. coast and the Salish Sea. Minister Tim Hodgson replied that the project received the most extensive consultation ever held, with more than 100 submissions and more than 100 in-person meetings, and that the government would continue working with Indigenous peoples on project reviews. May also raised a point of order about heckling, asking cabinet ministers not to shout down other members.Written by AI from the debate. Updated .

Mr. Speaker, the consultation that happened in listing the project the member is referring to was the most intensive consultation ever held. There were more than 100 submissions. There were more than 100 in-person meetings. It was the most comprehensive consultation that has been done on a project, and it was the earliest consultation that has been done.
