Leslie Church, Parliamentary Secretary to the Secretaries of State for Labour, for Seniors, and for Children and Youth, and to the Minister of Jobs and Families (Persons with Disabilities)
“Hunger is a serious problem. That is why we funded school meals, raised money for families with kids, and created a benefit for people with disabilities. We have more coming in tomorrow's budget. The Conservatives criticize our spending, but they will not say what they would cut, and they vote against these helpful programs.”
“Mr. Speaker, any time a child or family in Canada is hungry, it should stop us all. It is why this government made the national school food program permanent. It is why we tied the Canada child benefit to inflation. It is why we introduced the Canada disability benefit. It is why we are not finished. I would invite the member opposite to stay tuned tomorrow, when we introduce budget 2026. Those guys talk about spending in the budget and they talk about inflation, but they leave to the rest of our imaginations what they would cut. We know that and Canadians know that, because they vote against all of these measures time and again.”
