“Violent crime and extortion are way up under this government. People let out on bail keep committing more crimes. I want the government to support our bill and fix the bail system to keep repeat violent offenders off our streets.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, since the Liberals took office, violent crime is up 35% and extortion is up 330%. Last month in Calgary, a man charged with robbery was released on bail. Just two days later, police found him with a firearm and arrested him again. Canadians have a right to feel safe in their homes and communities. Will the government support the Conservatives’ safe at home act and actually fix the bail system to keep repeat violent offenders off our streets?

Ruby Sahota, Secretary of State (Combatting Crime)

Liberal
“Crime across the country is down every year, and extortion is down too. That is because our government made needed changes and removed people who were not supposed to be in Canada.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, crime is down across the country, and the crime severity index is lower year by year. Extortions are down. We have not had an instance of extortion like we have seen in previous years. That is because our government has made the changes that are necessary and has also removed people who were not supposed to be in the country, and that is why we are seeing the good results we are seeing when it comes to extortion.
