Lantsman consistently pushes a tough-on-crime message, blaming the government for being soft on criminals and terrorists. She frequently implies the Liberals are out of touch and irresponsible with spending. Expect her to drill into any whiff of government failure to protect Canadians' physical safety or economic security.
“You admitted it. Now say the number out loud.”
“I want a yes-or-no answer from you.”
“Just answer the question without the filler. Did your department skip security checks for those people or not?”
“Someone let in bad people by mistake. Lots of people got in. The department is checking if they were bad. Can the minister say if that's true?”
“I want you to admit you're okay with a bad guy getting in because I think it makes you look bad. I want a yes or no answer so you can't dodge it.”
“You just said he wasn't allowed in Canada. Someone in your department ignored that. I want you to say yes or no, are you okay with how they handled this?”
“You can't dodge my question that easily. Someone granted this man a visa. I want to know exactly why.”
“Just say yes or no. Is the IRGC a terrorist group here or not?”
“I want the minister to answer a hard question about fraud. Why aren't more people being prosecuted? The department should do more.”
“The number of temporary foreign workers is up and the minister shouldn’t lie about that. But about study permits, there are 153,000 fraud cases and only 2,000 are being investigated per year. At this rate, it will take 76 years to investigate them all. Is the minister fine with that?”
“You won't answer. You've added many foreign workers. The Prime Minister called it a failure. Do you agree?”
“I want to make you look bad by highlighting a big increase in temporary foreign workers. I'm implying you're out of touch and uncaring toward Canadians.”
“I want to correct the minister's numbers. I think the government is giving out too many work permits to foreign workers this year.”
“Approving visas for low-wage temporary foreign workers is bad. Youth unemployment is very high. The government program she talks about won't help.”
“I want to say some kind words to the minister and then stick to my prepared question. Does the minister think 15% youth unemployment is a big problem?”
“Liberals think spending is the same as protecting. The CRTC content fund did not create famous Canadians. Freedom to compete is what protects talent. I want to stand up for Canadian creators' freedom to compete.”
“You're still talking about Donald Trump? Let me tell you what really doesn't make sense. The Prime Minister gave up a 3% tax and got nothing. Now he's charging Canadian families 15% to watch streaming services that don't even count as Canadian content. Explain that!”
“You say we have a double standard. No, we're consistent. We want the government out of all of it. Stop taxing and meddling.”
“You're lying. The government could stop the CRTC today if it wanted. The Prime Minister just wants to tax Canadians more and spend their money.”
