Long defends affordability measures and CRA service: a groceries and essentials benefit he says lifts 77,000 Canadians out of poverty, a paused fuel excise tax worth 10¢ a litre, and lower call times at the agency. He argues mainly by belittling opponents rather than their positions, calling the Conservative leader someone “who has never worked a day outside of this House”, and his promises often come without dates or measures.Written by AI from their statements. Mr. Speaker, despite that party’s best efforts to mislead Canadians about the economy, the spring economic update indicated that our economy is strong. He talked about the PBO. Let us listen to the PBO: “The Canadian economy continues to demonstrate resilience, with most indicators better than anticipated in Budget 2025.” Canadians have no time to listen to a leader who has never worked a day outside of this House. They have tuned him out. Let us build Canada strong.

Mr. Speaker, Canada’s new government is committed to build a strong, resilient and independent economy. Despite what we hear opposite, our economy is strong. The IMF projects our economy to be one of the most resilient, fastest-growing in th G7. We are going to continue to build the economy. The spring economic update invests $6 billion in the trades, and it invests in the sovereign wealth fund. On this side, we are continuing to build a strong economy. That side can continue with the rhymes and rhetoric.

Mr. Speaker, he may say we give the same answers, but they hand the same questions around from member to member. We are focused on building the strongest economy in the G7. We are focused on making life more affordable for Canadians. At home, we are cutting taxes. We just launched the groceries and essentials benefit. We just cut the federal excise tax on fuel. Combined with the carbon tax cut, that is 28¢. Our spring economic update confirms our fiscal position is strong. We have the leader to build Canada strong. They have a leader who has never worked a day outside of this House.

Mr. Speaker, while that party doubles down on offering nothing for Canadians, we are going to build the strongest economy in the G7. We just tabled the spring economic update, which confirms that we have the strongest fiscal position in the G7. We also announced the sovereign wealth fund, which will spark massive investment in our country, a fund by Canada for Canadians. It is time for that party to get off the sidelines and help us build Canada strong.

“We are helping more people with disabilities qualify for tax relief. We are also funding volunteer programs that file taxes for over a million vulnerable Canadians.”

Mr. Speaker, the former prime minister lives rent-free in all of their heads. The current Prime Minister is focused on building an economy for everyone. In yesterday’s spring economic update, we announced bold changes to the disability tax credit so more Canadians with disabilities can get the support they need. We also reinvested in the community volunteer income tax program, which is run by volunteers. It does taxes for our most vulnerable, over a million Canadians. Of those, 17% have not filed for—

Mr. Speaker, on this side of the House, we are going to build the strongest economy in the G7. We have the best fiscal position in the G7 and second-fastest growing economy in the G7, ahead of Italy and Germany. Just yesterday, our Prime Minister announced the sovereign wealth fund, which will spark massive investment by Canadians in Canada. In an hour and a half, our finance minister is going to table the spring economic update to continue our historic growth. It is time for that side to get off the sidelines and help us build Canada strong.

Mr. Speaker, one thing our Prime Minister was elected to do was to build an economy that is the strongest in the G7. We are going to build that at home and abroad. At home we have cut taxes for 22 million Canadians, we launched a groceries and essentials benefit and we just paused the excise federal tax on gas. Abroad our Prime Minister and our trade minister are signing deals worldwide for billions of dollars to create thousands of jobs. On this side of the House, we are focused on building the strongest, most resilient economy in the G7.

Mr. Speaker, the former failed leader and the missing-in-action current failed leader love to stand in this House and talk about the economy. They have been in this House a total of 44 years and have accomplished nothing for Canadians. In fact, their work experience outside of this House could fit on a post-it note, unless they embellish it again, like the former leader did in 2019. On this side of the House, we have the Prime Minister and the plan. He is going to build the strongest economy in the G7.
