“We all want to leave a better country for our children and grandchildren. We should permanently get rid of this fuel tax instead of pausing it. That gives people certainty. The government can make up the lost money by shrinking its own size.”

Mr. Speaker, the member for Brome—Missisquoi is a colleague for whom I have great respect. He is fortunate to still have his father around and to be a grandparent. As for me, I will become a grandfather in two weeks. I will get the greatest gift that life can give me in a couple of weeks. We all think about our children and grandchildren. I am certain that all members here, on both sides of the House, are thinking about their children and grandchildren. Our shared goal is to leave a better country for future generations. I am sure that we all share that vision. Where do our visions differ? I spoke earlier about predictability. What we on the Conservative side are saying is that we need to give our constituents some predictability by permanently eliminating this tax. There are many ways to make up the revenue, such as by reducing the size of government.
