Taxation

During Question Period on taxation, the Conservatives argued Canadians are taxed on nearly everything they earn, buy, own and consume, said the government spends money first earned by workers, and urged it to cut spending and outside consultants, citing a Conservative plan identifying 150 billion dollars in cuts. The Liberal government replied that it has cut taxes for 22 million Canadians, suspended the fuel excise tax to help with costs, and said it is working to build a strong economy among G7 countries.Written by AI from the debate. “Canadians pay too much tax on almost everything they do and buy. The government spends money that workers earned. Conservatives found 150 billion dollars to cut. The government needs to stop spending so much, fire outside consultants, and use our plan.”

Mr. Speaker, Canadians are taxed at every turn. They are taxed when they earn a paycheque, when they spend money, when they own something, when they fill their tank and when they buy a drink. Even when they die, they are taxed. Every single dollar that the Liberal government spends was first earned by a hard-working Canadian, yet Conservatives have found $150 billion in savings. When will the Liberal government respect taxpayers, cut consultants, rein in spending, save Canadians money and adopt the Conservative economic action plan?

“We do not need advice from the Conservatives. We cut taxes for 22 million Canadians and paused the fuel tax to help people. We are helping Canadians and building the strongest economy in the G7.”

Mr. Speaker, again, we will take no lessons from the Conservatives. The very first thing that the Prime Minister of Canada did was to cut taxes for 22 million Canadians. That is something that Canadians will remember. Not only did we do that, but we suspended the fuel excise tax at a time when Canadians needed a bridge and a boost to the future. We are building a stronger Canada. We are helping Canadians. We are going to have the strongest economy in the G7. That is going to benefit all Canadians.
