“The budget must focus on saving Canadians money. Ten years of Liberal government have made gas, food, and homes too expensive. I want the Prime Minister to drop all gas taxes. It would lower gas prices by 20 cents a litre and save each family $1,000.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, the number one priority in the budget must be to save Canadians money. Saving Canadians money is essential because, after 10 years, the Liberals have driven up the price of gas, groceries and homes. The quickest way to reverse this inflation is to eliminate all gas taxes. Eliminating all gas taxes would cut the cost of gas by 20¢ a litre and save every family $1,000. Will the Prime Minister accept our idea to save Canadians money?

“Government subsidies for green energy help big companies and American businesses instead of Canadians. The government should cut all taxes between now and July to save people money and lower the cost of shipped goods. I want to know why the Prime Minister keeps taxing people who cannot afford it.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, heat pump subsidies may be helping Brookfield, the Prime Minister’s company, which invested in that. Biodiesel subsidies paid for by Canadian taxpayers are going to American companies. The top priority should be to save Canadians money by eliminating all taxes starting now until July. That will also lower the cost of all the products arriving by truck. Why does the Prime Minister insist on taxing Canadians, who cannot pay more?

“The budget must save Canadians money on food, fuel, and home building. The fastest way to do this is to remove all taxes on gas and diesel. I want the Prime Minister to cut these gas taxes.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, job one for the budget is very simple: save Canadians money. It needs to save Canadians money on their groceries, save Canadians money at the pump and save them money on the materials that go into building homes. The fastest way to save Canadians money is to get rid of all taxes on gas, get rid of the so-called fuel standard tax and the GST on gas and diesel, and get rid of the excise tax until Canada Day. Will the Prime Minister accept our idea to save Canadians money by axing taxes on gas?

Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Opposition

“High fuel taxes make diesel too expensive for farmers, and that raises food prices for everyone. The government should accept our plan to scrap these taxes.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, it is no wonder Canadians are out of money. The Liberal government is out of touch. Yes, the farmers in my riding say the single biggest expense this year is the cost of diesel. Some of them are spending $25,000 or $30,000 on diesel. One farmer spends $5,000 a day during the harvest. All of it gets passed on in higher food costs. The Liberal government continues to add 20¢ a litre in taxes. The best way to save Canadians money is to scrap all those taxes. Will the government accept our idea to save farmers, small businesses, seniors and Canadians money?

“Canadians cannot afford more Liberal taxes. Life is not affordable when food bank visits are at a record high and Canadians rank worst among 22 countries for believing they will never afford a home. The government needs to stop wasting time and save Canadians money.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, this will be their second generational budget in one year. Canadians cannot afford another generation of Liberal taxes. They are out of money. The member is out of touch to say they have delivered on affordability when food bank demand is up 9% year over year, with 2.35 million record-smashing visits to the food bank and the largest number of people who cannot believe they will never be able to afford a home is in this country, of any of the 22 countries polled by Habitat for Humanity. Why will they not stop wasting time and save Canadians money?

Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Opposition

Conservative
“The government should remove all taxes on gas. That would save people up to 30 cents a litre and save families 1,200 dollars. Will the government put this tax cut in the budget?”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, the member had trouble following what is a very clear and direct path to make life affordable. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, and the straight line is this. They get rid of all taxes on gas and immediately start saving people 20¢ a litre. They cancel the reinstallation of the excise tax and it goes up to almost 30¢ a litre. That will save a Canadian family $1,200. This is an immediate action the government can take to save money for Canadians. Will it do it in the budget?
