“We are working hard to lower costs for Canadians. We are helping people heat their homes for less money. We are also supporting farmers and creating good jobs in the member's community.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, we are working hard on affordability for Canadians. One example is the heat pump program, which will help Canadians across the country lower the cost of heating their homes. I also want to talk about opportunities, because everyone wants to have a good job. People in the member’s riding are benefiting from biodiesel and canola subsidies. Farmers in his community will make more money thanks to what we are doing for that region.

Julie Dabrusin, Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature

Liberal
“The member should support our biodiesel program because it helps farmers in his riding. A refinery in Alberta uses half of the province's canola to make fuel, and his area grows a lot of canola.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, why is the member not interested in working for the farmers in his riding? Imperial is currently producing biodiesel at the Strathcona refinery. It uses 50% of Alberta’s canola. The member represents a riding that produces a great deal of canola. It makes a lot of sense to carry on with what we are doing. It is helping his constituents.

“The clean fuel rules help canola farmers and biodiesel producers across the country. They are good for the Conservative leader's own voters, and he should support them.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, I will say it once again, because it is so astonishing. The member opposite represents the second-largest canola-producing riding in Alberta, has a canola crusher in his riding and is right adjacent to Imperial Oil’s Strathcona refinery, which actually produces biodiesel supported by the clean fuel regulations. This is good for canola farmers across our country. It is good for his own constituents, and I would hope that he would stand up with them.

Wayne Long, Secretary of State (Canada Revenue Agency and Financial Institutions)

Liberal
“We will present our new budget on Thursday. It will invest across the country and keep helping people pay for groceries and daily needs. We help people afford life while the Conservatives only complain.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, I have great news for Canadians and great news for that party across the House. On Thursday, we will table our second generational budget, budget 2026. We will build Canada strong. We will invest in our country from coast to coast to coast. We will make sure nobody is left behind. We will continue with the groceries and essentials benefit and fight for affordability measures for Canadians. On this side of the House, we deliver on affordability. They continue with the rhetoric.

Wayne Long, Secretary of State (Canada Revenue Agency and Financial Institutions)

Liberal
“The Conservatives have no plan. Our government will introduce the next budget to build a strong economy and help people who need it most. We already paused the fuel tax, and we will keep helping Canadians with costs.”

Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, as always, on that side of the House, it is hands up, no plan and no focus. There is nothing on that side of the House. On this side of the House, we are going to table budget 2026. We are masters of our own destiny. We are going to build Canada strong. We are going to build a strong, resilient economy. We are going to invest and build Canada while looking after those who need help the most. We just paused the excise tax on fuel. We are going to continue to deliver affordability measures for Canadians. That side continues with nothing.

Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources

Liberal
“The member opposite voted against our plans to help families pay for groceries, child care, and other costs. He cannot lecture us on helping people afford life.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, let me help the member opposite. He could have voted for the groceries and essentials benefit and saved a family of four $1,900. He could have voted for the child benefit and saved families $7,000 a year. He could have voted for child care and saved families $16,000 a year. He could have voted for a tax cut and saved families another $840 a year. He voted against every single one of those affordability measures. We will take no lessons from him on affordability.
