“Food in the north costs too much. Milk costs 18 dollars in Inuvik, and a pack of water costs 97 dollars in Tuktoyaktuk. High diesel prices are making food more expensive. I want the Prime Minister to support our plan to remove all taxes on diesel to lower food prices.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister promised just last year, “Canadians will hold us to account by their experience at the grocery store”. Now, food is even more expensive since the Prime Minister took office because of diesel prices. Conservative shadow ministers and I were in the Canadian Arctic this summer. In Inuvik, it costs six dollars for a can of beans, seven dollars for a can of vegetable soup, $12 for a pound of butter, $13 for a pound of ground beef and $18 for a jug of milk. In Tuktoyaktuk, it costs $7.49 per kilogram for bananas, $8.69 for a loaf of bread, $12 for a litre of ketchup, $20 for a jug of chocolate milk and $97 for 24 bottles of water. Food is not affordable in the north. Prime Minister, your promise was to all Canadians, including northerners. Will the Prime Minister support our Conservative plan to eliminate all taxes on diesel so that food is more affordable for northern Canadians?
