“A trade agreement with Taiwan was finished 18 months ago, but the Prime Minister has not signed it. This deal would help Canadian trade and investment. I want to know why he is delaying it. I ask if it is because he is listening to China's government instead.”
“Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister claims that diversifying trade is a top priority, yet he has been sitting on a trade agreement with our democratic ally Taiwan. The Canada-Taiwan trade co-operation framework arrangement was finalized in March 2025. It would help strengthen trade, investment and supply chains with one of our largest trading partners. It is a win for Canada, yet it has languished on the Prime Minister’s desk for 18 long months. The question is why. Why do we have the delay? Is it because of the Prime Minister’s ill-conceived strategic partnership with the Beijing dictatorship? Is it because the Prime Minister is taking his cues from Beijing? It certainly looks that way.”
