“Canada just made a trade deal with the United Arab Emirates. How will this help Canadian businesses and workers sell more goods there?”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, the work our government is doing to diversify Canadian trade matters for the workers in my riding of Oakville West, who produce top-quality products that are in demand around the world. The recently concluded Canada-U.A.E. trade agreement marks a historic milestone for our country to expand trade ties with our largest trading partner in the Middle East. Could the Minister of International Trade update the House on how our record-setting U.A.E. trade agreement will help Canadian businesses across the country tap into this fast-growing market and ensure that Canadian workers and exporters compete and win on the world stage?

“We signed a trade deal with the United Arab Emirates in 47 days. It lowers taxes on almost all Canadian goods sold there. This opens a huge market for Canadian farming, energy, lumber, and aerospace.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, through you, I would like to thank my colleague from Oakville West for her work in the House and, of course, on the trade committee. This week, we signed a historic trade agreement with the U.A.E. in a record 47 days, the fastest trade agreement ever negotiated by Canada. Once in force, this new trade agreement will lower tariffs on 99% of Canada’s exports to the U.A.E. That means new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses and a market value of over $700 billion. That is more access for Canadian agriculture, aerospace, energy, lumber and more. Plan A is working. We are diversifying and are building Canada strong.
