“I oppose this budget. It adds $765 billion in new debt over five years, which will lead to higher interest costs, higher taxes, and more pressure on families. The government needs to cut wasteful spending and lower the costs of fuel, food, and housing instead of borrowing more.”

Mr. Speaker, the Liberal government had one job, to make life more affordable for Canadians. Instead, the costly credit card budget adds a staggering $765 billion in new debt over five years, the largest borrowing spree in Canadian history. The Prime Minister may divide spending across three credit cards to make it look smaller, but Canadians know the truth. Borrowed money must be paid back. That means higher debt interest costs, higher taxes in the future and more pressure on family budgets today. Conservatives called for relief on fuel, food and housing costs, and for a serious effort to reduce wasteful spending. Instead, the government plans even more spending while breaking its promise to reduce debt. The budget is not a plan for prosperity. It is a plan for being mastered by debt, and Canadians will be left paying the bill.
