“Violent crime in Toronto has dropped, and Canada had its biggest drop in homicides in nearly 40 years. I want the public safety minister to tell the House what the government has done to help lower crime.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, violent crime in Toronto has reached historic lows, with homicides and shootings declining significantly over the past two years. In fact, across Canada, homicides decreased by 125 in 2025 compared to 2024, which is the largest year-over-year decline in nearly 40 years. While there is more work to do, these results matter. Can the Minister of Public Safety update the House on the actions our government has taken to contribute to this decline?

“Police officers are getting results keeping Canadians safe. Our government has acted to fight organized crime, gun violence, cybercrime, car theft, and home invasions. We will keep giving police the tools they need to do their jobs.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, I thank the member for University—Rosedale for her hard work. I also want to thank the brave men and women who put themselves in harm’s way to protect Canadians each and every day. Their hard work is delivering results. Our government has moved quickly to implement one of the most ambitious public safety agendas in a generation, with measures to combat organized crime, gun violence, cybercrime, auto theft and home invasions. We will not stop there. We will continue to give law enforcement the tools necessary to do its job more effectively.
