Mr. Speaker, Canada has long been a proud and active member of the international francophone community. Mr. Speaker, when I was in France last month, I submitted Canada’s bid to host the Sommet de la Francophonie in our country. This summit will help strengthen economic ties in our francophone and acadian communities. I also met with the secretary general of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie to reaffirm Canada’s commitment to economic and cultural partnership. The French language remains a central part of Canada’s identity.
