The Economy

In a debate on the economy, a Conservative MP pointed out that Canada's national debt has more than doubled since 2015 under the Liberal government, rising from $616 million to $1.4 trillion. He also noted that Canada is now the only G20 country in a recession, whereas in 2015 it had a balanced budget and the world's richest middle class.

Hon. Mike Lake

Conservative
“In 2015, Canada had less debt and a balanced budget. Now we have more debt, and we're spending more on debt interest than on health transfers. The current government's choices led to this. They took on more debt, used the pandemic to increase inflationary spending, and killed oil and gas projects that would have helped our economy and security.”
