Silver Alert National Framework Act

A bill to make a national 'Silver Alert' system for missing old people. The Bloc Quebecois said it steps on Quebec's turf and they won't support it. The rest mostly traded sweet time-wasting anecdotes about old people getting lost.

“We already have this system in Quebec. We don't need Ottawa to standardize it and make it worse. Let Quebec and the provinces handle this themselves.”

“I want my constituents to see me supporting a program that spends money to help seniors. The government should standardize this alert system across Canada. This system helps find seniors who have gone missing. We are compassionate people and should protect the lives of seniors at risk.”

“I want to support this bill because it shows compassion for seniors with dementia. However, I want to make sure it doesn't create too many alerts and overwhelm people. The provinces need to agree to this framework. We are already discussing improvements to the alert system with them. I suggest adding some amendments to the bill to set clear thresholds for when an alert should be sent out.”

“I want this bill to pass because it will help protect vulnerable seniors with dementia who go missing. It will create a national framework for Silver Alerts, similar to Amber Alerts for children. This is important because when a senior with dementia goes missing, time is critical. They are at high risk of injury or death from exposure, especially in cold weather. A coordinated alert system will help mobilize the community and police to search for the missing senior quickly. The bill respects the role of provinces and police, and includes privacy safeguards. I think of rural areas like my riding where a senior can disappear on a country road and distance becomes dangerous. This bill can save lives and give families peace of mind. It's a common sense, non-partisan issue that we should all support.”
