The Economy

During question period on the economy, members discussed major national projects and the government’s Building Canada Strong Act, which changes review processes to speed up project approvals. Liberal minister Mark Carney pointed to the bill and highlighted the Churchill Falls hydro project as a clean energy investment benefiting Quebec and all Canadians. Bloc Québécois member Christine Normandin objected to Quebeckers paying for a pipeline, argued the country’s priorities should instead include climate action, protection from web giants, and support for forestry, and said the Prime Minister should not be able to place projects above the law.Written by AI from the debate. Mark Carney, Prime Minister

Liberal
“Our bill helps build major projects. We are making the Churchill Falls hydro project happen, which benefits Quebec and all Canadians. It is the largest clean energy investment in North American history.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, with regard to this specific issue, we are following Bill C-39, the building Canada strong act. The other major project I wanted to mention is the Churchill Falls project, which is in the interests of both Quebeckers and Canadians. The Government of Canada is making this project possible. It is the largest investment in clean energy in history—not just in Canada, not just in Mexico, not just in the United States, but in the history of North America.
