During oral questions, the House discussed the government’s trade diversification strategy. Liberal member Giovanna Mingarelli asked how the plan was helping businesses in her riding and across Canada grow by finding new customers abroad. Minister Maninder Sidhu replied that the strategy was working, citing a Canadian company that had won a contract to supply life jackets to the British military, which he said supports Canadian jobs.Written by AI from the debate. “Our plan to trade with more countries helps Canadian businesses find new customers and create jobs. Can the minister explain how this plan is helping businesses grow?”
Official Hansard

Madam Speaker, our government is delivering the most comprehensive trade diversification strategy in a generation. We are opening doors around the world so that businesses and innovators in my riding and across Canada have every opportunity to grow and thrive. Can the Minister of International Trade share with Canadians how our trade diversification strategy is standing with Canadian businesses to help them reach new customers, find new markets and create jobs here at home?

“Our plan to trade with more countries is working. A local business just won a contract to sell 12,000 life jackets to the British military, which supports good Canadian jobs.”
Official Hansard

Madam Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague and friend from Prescott—Russell—Cumberland for her tireless efforts to support the workers and local businesses in her community. In fact, I met with a local business at the Poland defence show, Tulmar Safety Systems. I would like to congratulate it as it recently secured a multi-year supply grant with the U.K. armed forces to supply them with 12,000 Canadian-made tactical life preservers, supporting good-paying local Canadian jobs. Plan A is working. We are building strength at home while we diversify abroad.
