“Doctors agree that sharing health records safely between clinics and hospitals improves care and saves time. The government has promised this for years. I want to know what is different now, and I want an exact timeline for when it will happen.”
“Madam Speaker, Dr. Margot Burnell, the past president of the CMA, stated: When personal health information can travel freely and securely between patients, clinics, hospitals and labs, people will have better health outcomes and doctors will have more time to focus on care. It also makes it easier for patients to manage their own care in partnership with doctors and other health professionals. I know this is echoed by the new, incoming president. The government has been working on a pan-Canadian interoperability road map for years. What is the difference this time, and what concrete timeline would the government commit to so Canadians are not still hearing about the promise of connected care in five years or 10 years from now? This is something the NDP has been calling on for a long time, and I have been working with the minister on it.”
