“I want to congratulate Eric Spearin and the Hamilton Cardinals baseball team. He was named the league's top executive after leading the team to its first championship series since 1978 and helping local kids in the community.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, it is official. The Canadian Baseball League’s top executive in 2026 is Hamilton’s Eric Spearin. Fans packed into Bernie Arbour Stadium in Hamilton Mountain all season long to watch the Hamilton Cardinals play with a talent-packed roster. The Cardinals are among the city’s oldest sports teams, but their last championship game was in 1978. For a long stretch, the team struggled until Eric Spearin became owner in 2022. His vision brought the team a real winning culture and, for the first time, the Cardinals were on top heading into the championship series. The team’s impact goes much deeper than winning ball games in Hamilton. When 80 children were suddenly left without a way to get to the Salvation Army summer camp, Eric Spearin dispatched the Cardinals team bus to make sure no one missed out. We are grateful and proud. Congratulations to the Cardinals.
