“Chinese Canadians volunteered for secret missions in World War II, even while Canada treated them unfairly and denied them the right to vote. I want all members to support my motion to make June Chinese Canadian contributions month and June 22 a national day to honour them.”
“Mr. Speaker, as Remembrance Day approaches, we honour the Chinese Canadians of Force 136. For decades, their story has remained largely untold. During the Second World War, they volunteered for dangerous secret missions behind enemy lines in Asia. They risked their lives for Canada while facing discrimination and being denied the right to vote at home. They fought for freedom overseas and helped advance equality at home. This week, I attended the unveiling of Canada Post’s stamp honouring their service. Their stories show why recognition matters. My motion, Motion No. 32, would designate June 22 as national Chinese Canadian contributions day and June as Chinese Canadian contributions month. I urge all members to support this motion and honour those who helped build and defend Canada. Lest we forget.”
