The Economy

During Question Period on the economy, a Liberal member asked about the importance of natural resources jobs in Sudbury and why rules are needed so resource projects can be approved more quickly. The government House leader replied by pointing to a bill introduced the day before, which the government describes as a major reform to speed up major projects, strengthen transportation networks, diversify trade, and support responsible mining of key minerals and job creation.Written by AI from the debate. “Natural resources support thousands of jobs in Sudbury. I want the minister to explain why we need rules that help resource projects get approved quickly.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, in Sudbury, we know that our natural resources are the core of our economy. They support thousands of jobs and keep our local businesses alive. In order for these benefits to materialize, projects need to move forward efficiently. Could the Minister responsible for One Canadian Economy explain why it is so important to create a regulatory environment that makes it possible to carry out these projects, which are essential for communities like Sudbury and for Canada’s economic future?

“We introduced a new bill yesterday to speed up big projects, improve transportation, and trade with more countries. It will help us mine key minerals responsibly and create jobs for Canadians.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, I thank our colleague from Sudbury for her question. Yesterday, we introduced a bill to build Canada strong, the most ambitious reform in a generation, to strengthen and accelerate our capacity to get projects done right, strengthen our transportation networks and diversify our trade partners. Our colleague from Sudbury knows full well that we have a well-trained workforce. Her region has the critical minerals that the world needs. We are going to develop them responsibly and put Canadians to work.
