“Oil companies are making record profits while people struggle with the cost of living. Suncor made almost $10 billion in nine months. I want to know if the government will stop giving public money to these companies in the budget.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, while Quebeckers are struggling with the cost of living, the greedy oil companies continue to rake in record profits from the war in Iran. In nine months, Suncor made nearly $10 billion. That is more than it made in its best year ever. Its refining margin shot up 260%, which means that, yes, it is ordinary people who have been paying the price. The greedy oil companies are getting richer than ever at Quebeckers’ expense. Will the government finally cut off their supply of public funds in the budget?

“We will keep investing in clean and renewable energy, like heat pumps, wind, and solar power. These investments will help reduce the high costs that fossil fuels put on Canadians.”

Mr. Speaker, we will continue to invest in clean and renewable energy, as we did with the then premier of Quebec and the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador by investing in Churchill Falls. We will continue to invest in heat pumps for households. We will continue to invest in wind and solar energy. In short, we will continue to invest in technologies that will ease the burden that fossil fuels place on the backs of Canadian consumers.

“Oil companies are making record profits, but the government is still making Canadians pay billions of dollars for a pipeline and fossil fuel subsidies. I want to know when the government will stop using public money to help oil companies.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, at the rate they are going, heat pumps will end up running on gas. Oil companies are posting record profits again this year because of the war in Iran. Meanwhile, the Liberals want Canadians to foot the $40-billion-plus bill for a pipeline out west. We are already forking out tens of billions of dollars in fossil fuel subsidies, and now we are learning that the upcoming budget will overhaul exploration deductions for oil and gas companies. I would bet an old two-dollar bill that the goal is not to reduce those deductions. When will the Liberals stop making Canadians pay to help the greedy oil industry?

“We are giving $6 billion in tax credits to move the Churchill Falls project forward. This will secure clean energy for Quebec in the future, and I welcome this debate.”

Mr. Speaker, let us talk about energy investments that benefit Quebec and Canadian consumers. We are providing $6 billion in refundable tax credits to move the Churchill Falls project forward and secure a supply of renewable green energy for future generations of Quebeckers. Let us talk about energy investments and Quebec consumers. We are very much looking forward to this debate.
