The opposition Conservatives proposed a motion to provide some relief to Canadians struggling with an affordability crisis by temporarily suspending certain fuel taxes and the carbon tax. Liberals and Bloc argued their environmental policies are more important. Conservatives said this shows the government is out of touch with the real-world impacts of high taxes and prices on ordinary Canadians, especially those struggling to get by or save for a home.

“I worry about the budget. But cutting gas taxes and making more oil is not the solution. The planet will need to be cleaned up eventually. Many countries use electric, wind, and solar energy. But Conservatives want to go back to oil. And the government agrees, they cut gas taxes recently. Isn't it counterproductive to increase oil production and cut taxes? Shouldn't we invest in clean energy instead?”
