Corey Hogan, Calgary Confederation
“The forestry industry is vital to Canada, even though it faces challenges from U.S. trade actions and fewer people buying newspapers. Next week, our government will release a new plan to support the forestry sector.”
“Mr. Speaker, last week, Canadians marked National Forest Week, and sector leaders from across the country gathered in Ottawa at the Forest Products Association of Canada’s annual conference to strengthen this vital sector. There is no question that U.S. trade actions and the decline of newsprint have made for some challenging years, but we are a nation of forests. Forestry quite literally built this country, and forestry will continue to build this country. Next week, we will release our forestry strategy. This strategy will build on the work of the forest sector transformation task force and the action plan released this spring. I want to recognize the workers, innovators, researchers, indigenous partners and industry leaders whose dedication helps keep our forest community strong, last week, this week and every week. When forestry is strong, Canada is strong.”
