Small Business

During the discussion on small business, one Member stated that Canada’s stable government, abundant resources, and skilled workforce make it an appealing location for investment, referencing a recent summit that secured $500 billion in commitments. Another Liberal MP defended the government’s productivity mega deduction policy, stating that it encourages investment in Canadian businesses to create good-paying jobs and foster growth. These arguments asserted that the deduction will provide $22 billion in annual economic benefits and offer Canada the most competitive tax rate among OECD nations.Written by AI from the debate. “Canada is a great place to invest because of our workers, resources, and stable government. A recent summit brought in $500 billion in commitments, and our tax deductions help businesses invest more money in their workers. I want the minister to explain how this helps Canadians.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, Canada has everything the world needs: skilled workers, innovative businesses, strong infrastructure, abundant natural resources, as well as a reliable, stable country and government. That helps explain the success of the recent investment summit in Toronto, which unleashed $500 billion in commitments for our businesses and workers. Another reason for that success is the productivity mega deduction, which will allow businesses of all sizes to deduct a wide range of assets so they have more money to invest in their workers and their companies. Can my colleague from the Quebec City region, the Minister of Government Transformation, tell the House how Canadians—

“We chose to invest in Canadian businesses to create good jobs. Our productivity tax deduction will bring $22 billion to the economy and support up to 80,000 jobs each year. It gives Canada the most competitive tax rate in the OECD and helps our businesses grow and innovate.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague from Québec Centre. He is right. We made a choice: to invest in Canadian businesses and create good-paying jobs. That is exactly what we are doing with the productivity mega deduction, which will generate $22 billion in annual economic benefits and support up to 80,000 new jobs each year. In fact, what we are doing is making Canada the OECD country with the most competitive tax rate by a wide margin. This will empower our small, medium-sized and large businesses to achieve their ambitions, to grow, succeed and innovate. That is how we build Canada strong and ensure that we remain masters in our own house, now and forever.
