The Economy

During question period on the economy, Alexandre Boulerice said people in Montreal are struggling with living costs, citing a figure that a family of four there needs about $88,800 after tax for basic needs, and asked when the government would help ordinary people. Liberal ministers responded by listing government programs such as dental care, pharmacare, the school food program, the increase to old age security and the Canada child benefit, saying these support people in need, and Patty Hajdu said she had figures on how many residents in each riding had used these programs. Luc Berthold of the Conservatives raised a point of order saying no minister had answered a question from the member for Simcoe North.Written by AI from the debate. Updated .

“Our government supports people in need with programs for dental care, medicine, food, seniors, and children. The Conservatives keep voting against this help.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, let us think about the dental care program, pharmacare, the school food program, the increase to old age security and the Canada child benefit. Canada is always there to help the less fortunate, those who need a hand to make ends meet. It will always be there. The real question is this: When will we get the support of all members of this House? The Conservatives are always voting against these measures.

Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario

Liberal
“I have sheets showing how many people in each riding got child care, dental care, and school meals from our programs. I stand by what our government has done.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, I am happy to share with the members opposite the number of projects in their ridings, the number of people who have received early learning and child care, the number of people who have received dental care, and the number of people who are getting fed in schools. That is the information on these sheets, by province and by MP. I will stand up for our records any day.
