Points of Order

A point of order about conduct during question period. A Liberal member said the member for Hamilton East—Stoney Creek repeatedly yelled at a minister to sit down, and asked that the member apologize, saying only the Speaker can tell members to sit. A Conservative member replied that the phrase ‘sit down’ comes from the government benches almost every time opposition members ask questions, and said government members should follow the rules themselves before lecturing others.Written by AI from the debate. Andrew Scheer, Regina—Qu'Appelle

Conservative
“Government members yell 'sit down' almost every time the opposition asks a question. If they want to lecture us about good behavior, they should follow the rules themselves.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, if you go back and review the audio from basically every single question period, you will hear that exact phrase, “sit down”, coming from the government benches almost every time members of the opposition ask questions. If the parliamentary secretary wants to teach lessons, he should maybe take a lesson on decorum as well.
