They might wonder what their member of Parliament was doing when it was time to vote to help them. I actually know these people. These are people who are watching and seeing what their member of Parliament is doing. They are wondering where their member of Parliament was when we talked about the Canada groceries and essentials benefit, whether he voted for it or against it. Madam Speaker, what Canadians are watching today is the Conservatives always talking down the Canadian economy. We have the most talented workers. We have strong industries. We are one of the few countries that can build a car, can build a plane and can build a ship. We have the critical minerals to power the economy of the 21st century. We have an abundance of energy to make things here at home, and we are the only G7 country with free trade with all the other G7 nations. Madam Speaker, I have enormous respect for the colleague who just asked the question, but she knows better. She knows that Canada has the strongest fiscal position in the G7. She knows that Canada is the only country, with Germany, to have a AAA credit rating. She knows that Canada has the lowest net debt to GDP in the G7. She knows that the IMF just confirmed in its forecast that Canada will have the second-fastest growth in 2027. She knows that this country has everything to build, and that is what we are going to do, with Canadians.

Madam Speaker, I am sure what the people in Alberta and across Canada are wondering is why the Conservatives are missing in action every time we have a vote to support Canadians. Where was the member when we voted for the Canada groceries and essentials benefit? Where was the member when we extended the suspension of the excise fuel tax for people across the country? At a time when Canadians need support, I would say that Conservative members should join with this government and support Canadians every step of the way.

Mr. Speaker, I am afraid the member was missing in action yesterday. We just announced with the Government of Ontario more than $8 billion to support a number of sectors in Ontario: our steel sector, our brave men and women who work in the automotive industry and those boosting our critical minerals. Instead of talking our workers and our industry down, why does he not support the government and work with us to make sure that we keep jobs in Canada and grow our industry and make sure that we build Canada strong together?

Mr. Speaker, we understand the situation perfectly. We are acutely aware, as are all Canadians, that affordability is the priority—housing, food and gas prices. That is precisely why we introduced the Canada groceries and essentials benefit, which will help 12 million Canadians. What is unfortunate, however—and the people watching at home know it—is that my Conservative colleagues voted against that measure, which will help 12 million Canadians. I hope that they will reconsider their position and support a government that supports Canadians.

More than 12 million Canadians are receiving direct assistance to help them at a time when they need it most. On this side of the House, we will always be there to stand up for the interests of Canadians.

They do very important work across this country, and I think we should all applaud their work and thank them for their work. We implemented one of the recommendations, which is now called the Canada groceries and essentials benefit. With that, 12 million people in this country will receive a benefit to help them with groceries. On this side of the House, we are always going to do what is right to support Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, what my colleague is suggesting is somewhat contradictory. As I said, the contract awarded by the Canada Revenue Agency involves 60 security officers, 33 of whom are former commissionaires and 12 of whom are veterans who served this country in uniform. At every stage, we make every effort to give preference to Canadian companies and to ensure that all departments and agencies comply with and follow buy Canadian procurement practices.

Mr. Speaker, my colleague knows full well that, on this side of the House, we always support our veterans with job opportunities. In this case, my understanding is that this is a contract for 60 security officers. Of those 60 officers, 33 were commissionaires and 12 are former uniformed service members. One thing they know is that the Prime Minister has taken back control of the immigration system in the country. Not only did we do that, but we also ensured that we would have a sustainable level of immigration. We know, on this side of the aisle, that the people who come to our country choose Canada, contribute to our society, build families here and contribute to the greatness of the country.

As I was saying, what is concerning for the people watching at home is that the Conservative leader has been in the House for over 20 years, so he has had many opportunities to vote for measures that would have helped Canadians.
