Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, Sherbrooke was immensely proud to host the 11th Canadian Transplant Games this summer. The event was an opportunity to celebrate life, the resilience and determination of the athletes, and the generosity of donors. It was also a chance to pay tribute not only to them, but also to their loved ones. Our city also serves as an ambassador for this cause through its memorial garden, the only one of its kind in North America, which pays tribute to more than 6,200 organ and tissue donors. For nearly 40 years, the Canadian Organ and Tissue Donors Association has played a vital role in saving lives by coordinating the transportation of both organs and medical teams. This service is provided on a voluntary basis with the support of police forces across the country, including the RCMP. I would also like to highlight Bill C-234, introduced by our colleague, the member for Edmonton Manning, which aims to recognize living donors. Finally, I would like to express my immense gratitude to Richard Tremblay, a member of the Order of Canada and founder of the association, for his exceptional commitment and unwavering dedication to Sherbrooke.
