“This government is spending too much and making a mess of immigration. The Prime Minister should say whether he really wants to keep people here illegally or if he'll fire his immigration minister.”

The Conservatives accused the Liberal government of allowing an Iranian terrorist into Canada and not properly tracking and deporting IRGC members. The Liberals claimed they have layers of protection that work and have taken back control of immigration. Much of the debate consisted of partisan sniping and finger-pointing rather than substantive discussion of immigration policy and security issues.
“I'm filling time with kind words and saying nothing anyone could pin down later.”
“The government let in a terrorist and has no checks on student visas. This is a mess and someone should be fired.”
“We already banned those people. Everything is fine. The policy hasn't changed. There's nothing to see here.”
“The other guy claims they didn't let any bad people in, but they did. They have no idea who's leaving the country either. The minister is screwing up. The Prime Minister picked her, they meet all the time, and he hasn't fired her yet. I want him to fire her.”
“Mr. Speaker, our government is working hard to ensure that the IRGC members are not admissible to Canada. We have taken several measures to control immigration, including reducing the number of asylum seekers, temporary foreign workers, and foreign students. Our goal is to maintain a level of immigration that is sustainable for the country.”
“The other guy is wrong. A news report says Canada still has a lot of IRGC members. The government hasn't expelled enough of them. Also, Trudeau can't track who leaves Canada. His government let in too many students. Some came here on false pretenses and don't plan to leave. The Liberals are asleep at the wheel. The immigration minister isn't doing enough. I want Trudeau to fire her. If he doesn't, he's part of the problem.”
“I make it sound like the government is taking big immigration actions. We checked a lot of forms and blocked some visas. And we kicked out a bunch of people last year. I want it to sound like we're in control now.”
