Foreign Affairs

During Question Period on foreign affairs, the NDP asked about reports that Canadian citizens had been abused while detained by Israeli forces after being on a flotilla, and called for sanctions on Israel and an end to trade with it. The Liberal government said the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs had condemned the mistreatment of people on the flotilla in the strongest terms, and that Canada continues to work on delivering aid and on a lasting peace in which Israelis and Palestinians can live safely side by side.Written by AI from the debate. Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs have condemned, in the strongest terms, mistreatment of any people who were on the flotilla. We have made our opinion extremely clear that it is unacceptable to treat people in that way. At the same time, we continue to work on delivering humanitarian aid and ensuring that we find solutions that are permanent for the people of Gaza and all Palestinians to live in peace and security, with Israel and Palestine living side by side.
