Oral Questions
Steel and Aluminum Industry
The Conservatives criticized the government for not protecting the steel industry enough from foreign competition. The Liberals defended their record, saying they have taken measures to protect steel producers and workers. However, much of their response focused on changing the subject to other supposed economic benefits of their policies.
“You're talking about helping steel? I'm talking about a big expensive rail project. My big expensive rail project is good. It will help steel. It will help small business. Your ideas are bad.”
“You let in toxic garage doors. A company in my riding sent you emails. You did nothing. You put us in debt. You hurt our businesses. You failed for 10 years. Wake up and fix it.”
“You're wrong. We're working hard. We stopped steel dumping. Trust us. We'll spend money to help businesses.”
