Build Canada Homes Act

A bill to create yet another government agency to supposedly build houses. In debate, the Liberals insisted this new bureaucracy is needed and useful, while the Conservatives pointed out it's just adding red tape that won't actually get homes built. The Bloc complained it might infringe on Quebec's jurisdiction.

“I'm tired of Liberal failures. They have been trying for 11 years and just made Canadian housing problems worse. Liberals should admit they are not the solution and transfer housing funds to the provinces. Provinces know better than Ottawa.”

Bloc Québécois
“The federal government is making housing funding too complex. They add needless red tape when they should trust Quebec's housing agency to do the job. The feds force our builders to wait for yet another new program. Why not let Quebec's housing agency handle the funding directly? It would unblock housing projects in my riding.”

“The feds make housing funding too complex! Builders fill out forms for Alberta and Calgary, just to fill out another form for the feds. That wastes time, people and money. One form should be enough. The feds should get out of the way and trust Alberta.”

“The Liberals keep adding more programs and layers to a bloated CMHC. That won't get Canadians housing. Cut the bureaucracy and let builders build.”

“The government keeps adding new Crown corporations to hide its true debt. That $600 billion is still taxpayers' money, no matter what shell game they play.”

“I want taxpayers to spend $13 billion on a new program. I want the government to build houses. I want a bigger government program to solve the problem. We will solve it this time, I promise.”

“You want to spend a lot of money. You want the government to hire more people and build more houses. The budget says less than 13,000 houses will actually get built. You are taking that money from other programs for vulnerable people. Why are you punishing poor people to make government bigger?”

“You are doing a good job. You should understand this bill better. The government wants to put all of the agencies that deal with housing into one big agency. This will save money. The woman in charge is good at her job. More affordable housing will be built.”

“I want less federal control. Quebec knows what Quebec needs. Adding another big federal agency will just make things slower and more complicated. Maybe that's not a problem in your province, but it is in mine.”

“You say a big federal agency will make things slow and complicated. I don't think so. I think a big federal agency will make things cheaper and faster. That will be good for Quebeckers.”
