Oral Questions
The Economy
The economy was apparently the topic, but the MPs mostly just took turns insulting each other. The Conservatives mocked the Liberals for presiding over a recession, while the Liberals gloated that 88,000 new jobs were created recently. After a lot of arguing and trading petty jabs, not much was really illuminated about the actual state of the economy.
“A man I talked to at an airport is sad. That makes me sad. The government should spend money to fix this.”
“I went to a fancy event. You did not. The government should spend money in Alberta. That will be good.”
“You ignored my story about an electrician. I want to blame your policies for him moving in with his mother and for the recession. Will you reverse your policies or just smirk?”
“I'm ignoring your story about that electrician. My government is already doing good things that will employ many electricians. That's the important part.”
“You say you're helping electricians, but this train won't be built for 15 years. While electricians wait, Liberal insiders will get $2.3 million in bonuses. If it's ever built, it will cost families $8,000 each. Why do you tax workers to benefit Liberal elites?”
“We're going to spend billions on high-speed rail. They don't like it, but we believe in big projects. I think it'll create jobs.”
“High-speed rail won't fix this. Canadians are going bankrupt. Stop spending so much and get out of their way.”
“Good news! Look at these numbers. Just ignore people going bankrupt. I have a job to fight for workers!”
“The other guy is doing bad. Our economy is the worst. The government should stop causing this recession.”
“The other guy is bad. We are making the economy strong. Our economy is the best. We believe in Canadians. We will keep working for a better Canada.”
“Why can't the Prime Minister defend his economic record? Maybe it's because more people are going bankrupt under his leadership. Canada is the only G20 country in a recession. I think the Prime Minister's policies are causing these bankruptcies and he should reverse them.”
“You say bad things are happening but I can list many good things too. Look at all these new jobs being created! Let me list them out for you.”
“You're wrong about everything. Our leader is better than yours. Even a hair stylist I talked to is suffering. Why should we trust you?”
“Our government is doing great! Look at all the new jobs we are creating in specific ridings. Ignore the hairstylist. Let's cheer the positive news instead.”
